Job overview

We have an opportunity for a Pharmacist to join our forward thinking, patient focused Clinical Pharmacy Service at The Royal Oldham Hospital. We welcome applications from motivated and driven Pharmacists with excellent clinical and communication skills. You must be efficient, organised, able to work as a team and autonomously and also be innovative and resourceful. It is an exciting role that will require interaction with a variety of people, including patients, advanced practitioners and consultants on a one-to-one basis.

This position is ideal for a Pharmacist who is looking to consolidate and develop clinical skills in a dynamic working environment, where knowledge obtained from a post- graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent will be essential.

Applications are invited from experienced Pharmacists who have a suitable post-graduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent and who have experience in the delivery of hospital pharmacy services.

Main duties of the job

You will provide effective, high quality pharmacy support to the Maternity and Gynaecology areas at The Royal Oldham Hospital working as part of a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and medicines management assistants.   The role will involve working with other senior pharmacists and clinicians to establish systems for seamless pharmaceutical care improving patient flow and patient safety.

You will complete medicines reconciliations to reduce risks of drug errors and interactions that ensure harm free care for patients. You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and provide expert advice for medication management, support medical staff to ensure safe and cost-effective prescribing and provide accurate information to primary care and community care providers on discharge.  You will have a role in supporting rotational pharmacists and foundation trainee pharmacists within your clinical area.

You will be working in a supportive environment that encourages growth and career enhancement, both clinically and managerially. We are committed to providing support for education and training to enhance your career.  Independent prescribing is desirable to this role.

There will be a commitment to working as part of a pharmacy team to provide 7 day services on site.  This will involve weekend working  and oncalls on a rotational basis.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy (4 years) or recognised equivalent
  • Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Non-medical Prescribing qualification

Professional Registration

Essential criteria
  • Registered with the GPhC

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Considerable clinical experience within a hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of clinical teaching
  • Knowledge of the therapeutics of common disease states and developments in medicine
  • Advanced clinical knowledge over a broad range of conditions
  • Current developments in relevant area of clinical practice
