An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experience RMN to join the Specialist Community Forensic Team, based within the Adult Forensic Service as a forensic community psychiatric nurse.

The Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) is  a community based service in Greater Manchester providing support to individuals with mental health issues relating to their offending/risk behaviour who have been discharged from a secure inpatient setting.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic individual able to demonstrate a strong sense of initiative, adapting to any given situation who works well as part of a team.

As a Forensic CPN, you will hold a small caseload of patients who are already residing in the community or are about to be discharged from a secure setting. Your role will involve assessment, robust risk management, care planning and specialist interventions to support patients who may be subject to MOJ conditions or probation interventions. 

The role encompasses working as an experienced clinician with patients where work is varied, fast paced and demanding therefore applicants must be flexible in their practices. 

 

 

Main duties of the job

You will be employed as a band 6 Forensic Community Psychiatric Nurse within SCFT. This role will involve working with patients residing across the Greater Manchester area. 

The team is operational Monday - Friday, 9-5.

You will be required to hold a small caseload of patients who have a history of offending behaviours, which also includes those who may be subject to conditions by the ministry of justice, or those who may be subject to license conditions and managed by probation services.

Your role will support patients transition from inpatient secure hospital into the community. 

You will monitor, evaluate and care plan in order to ensure a patients progress and monitor the effectiveness of interventions. You will also be involved in CPA planning reviews.

You will be apart of a robust and supportive MDT where it is vital that risk is reviewed and fed back regularly.

To offer specialist nursing interventions and advice where required.

Be involved in the supervision of junior staff members of the team.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current registration - RMN
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of mentorship
  • Additional qualifications relating to field of nursing

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of forensic nursing
  • Experience of working with people with complex mental health problems
  • Experience of working within an MDT
  • Experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a community setting
  • Knowledge of forensic sections and statutory reporting
  • Experience of partnership working, including MAPPA, Probation, MOJ
  • Experience of supervising staff
