Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Play an active role in the effective management and smooth running of the department
  • Step in as Deputy for the team leader when required, ensuring seamless leadership coverage
  • Provide professional guidance and support within the critical care area, fostering high standards of patient care
  • Champion practice development and educational initiatives, enhancing departmental knowledge and skills
  • Uphold the highest professional standards by acting in accordance with the NMC/HCP Professional Code of Conduct
  • Ensure all information relating to patients and staff is handled responsibly, maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and security in line with the Data Protection Act (1998) and our Security and Confidentiality Policy
  • Contribute to the effective management of departmental budgets, supporting financial sustainability and resource allocation

  • Registered Nurse/ODP with current NMC/HCPC registration
  • Scrub experience in ophthalmics

  • Registered RGN/ODP qualifications
  • Evidence of ongoing personal professional development
  • Willingness to undertake relevant study required for the post
  • Experienced in ophthalmic scrub
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clinical governance/HR/health and safety
  • Demonstrates good communication skills
  • Has experience of senior band 5 or above and demonstrates leading a team
Desirable criteria
  • Degree level nurse or ODP or willingness to work towards
  • Recognised specialised Ophthalmic course
  • Recognised teaching qualification
