Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/Psychological Therapist

NHS AfC: Band 7

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a permanent Band 7 Clinical or Counselling Psychologist or Psychological Therapist to join our friendly Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) team. The post is split across our first episode of psychosis and at-risk mental state pathways, offering psychological therapy to both populations. The post will be embedded within a friendly MDT working alongside other therapists and psychologists. We work mostly in community centres and in people’s own homes with young people aged 14 to 35 years.

The post holder will provide psychological assessment and deliver CBT to young people with an ‘at-risk mental state (ARMS)’ along the Early Detection and Intervention Team Pathway (EDIT). Within the first episode psychosis pathway, the Early Intervention Team (EIT), the post holder will work collaboratively with care coordinators and deliver CBT for psychosis (CBTp). For qualified therapists who do not yet have experience specifically in CBTp, support will be provided to develop these skills within the role.

We have a reputation for being a supportive and passionate team with clear values focussed on young people and recovery. The post holder will be based in Sale, Trafford and see people across the borough, an attractive leafy suburb with good public transport. We welcome applications from current trainees who are due to qualify this year.

Main duties of the job

·     To formulate clients’ presenting difficulties, integrate and apply psychological theory to clinical practice.

·     To provide evidence-based psychological therapies (e.g. cognitive behaviour therapy) to clients’ presenting problems (e.g. voice hearing, paranoia, depression, anxiety).

·     Apply a range of evidence-based cognitive models to clients’ presenting problems (e.g. psychosis, depression, anxiety disorders) in line with the client’s problem list and therapy goals.

·     To carry an independent caseload of clients and deliver evidence based psychological assessment and interventions to individuals, families and groups.  Monthly caseload data will be monitored in the team and targets set.

·     To offer case management/care coordination alongside therapy to difficult to reach clients who are at risk of psychosis or in their first episode and presenting with multiple social and health complexities.
