IT Engineer

Job overview

The IT Engineer will provide a proficient IM & T support services across the customer base.

The post holder will be involved in the installation, configuration and maintenance of end user equipment, systems and software, and assisting with local data centre and communications technology requirements.

Duties will also include being involved in testing and supporting deployment activities that require IT engineering resource.

The IT Engineer will have diagnostic and fault finding knowledge/skills and a broad range of IT knowledge and is required to work remotely and in the field as required.

Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen for an IT Engineer to work as part of the GM ICB IT Engineering Team.

The IT Engineer role will provide a proficient IM & T support service across the customer base.

The role being advertised is to cover the any locality across Greater Manchester, based on business requirements.

Applicants must also be a Regular Car user and be expected to visit customer locations on a regular basis.

The IT Engineer will communicate at many business levels including General Practice, Clinical Commissioning Groups and 3rd Parties with agreed Service Level Agreements.

Relationships with Suppliers and customers will be a day to day theme and also creating good working relationships with IM&T colleagues with excellent collaboration needed with other support teams. In addition the above post holder will be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a representative of NHS GM you will be expected:

  • To promote NHS GM’s vision, and mission and to uphold the NHS GM’s values in all day to day activities and delivery of services
  • Take corporate accountability for the delivery of shared corporate responsibilities e.g. relevant contribution to Corporate Objectives, Risk Register and Assurance Framework.
  • To ensure that NHS GM develops a culture that promotes equality and values diversity and that the service you provide meets the needs of all service users. This may involve the development and monitoring of policies and procedures to ensure the services you provide are inclusive to all.
  • To participate in an agreed on-call rota (delete if not relevant)
  • In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent legislation the post holder is required to undertake a proactive role in the management of risks in all their actions. This includes:
  • Undertaking risk assessments in line with NHS GM risk assessment process;
  • Reporting all incidents, near misses and hazards in line with NHS GM’s reporting arrangements/system
  • Undertaking a statutory duty of care for your own personal safety and that of others
  • Attending all statutory and mandatory health and safety training, appropriate to the role
  • Promote NHS GM’s vision, and mission and to uphold NHS GM’s values in all day to day activities and delivery of services;
  • Participate in the objective setting process as part of the annual Performance Development Review/appraisal process, to understand how own role and objectives are linked to team,
  • directorate and corporate objectives, to review what aspects of your role are being done well, and to identify any areas for development.
  • Undertake relevant activities and mandatory training to meet objectives identified in Personal Development Plan.
  • Adhere to all NHS GM policies and guidelines, including HR, Information Governance, Risk Management and Health & Safety policies.
  • Comply with relevant NHS GM and own professional codes of conduct and accountability.
  • Maintain professional registration if this is a requirement of the job.
  • Carry out your duties in a way that supports equality and values diversity. This responsibility includes your actions in relation to service users, carers, work colleagues, people in other organisations and members of the public.

  • and to undertake additional training appropriate to their role.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Technical Certifications (Such as MDAA, A+, MCSA, etc.)
  • Degree or Equivalent experience of working as an IT Engineer including field work.
  • ITIL Foundation
Desirable criteria
  • Microsoft Windows Server Network + Certification Apple OSX

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supporting a broad range IT equipment and services including desktops, printers and server room environments/processes.
  • Knowledge of server, storage and backups
  • Broad knowledge of IT including end user equipment, systems and software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Operating Systems including Windows Server, Windows 7/8 and Windows 10.
  • Knowledge of network Installations, cabling using switches, routers and patch panels.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding and experience of working with LAN and WAN technologies and network topologies
  • Understanding of remote access technologies to support and troubleshoot End User Incidents and Requests
