Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative Dietitian to join the Critical Care dietetic team in a static post based on the Critical Care Unit at Salford Care Organisation.

You will work alongside the critical care and trauma dietetic leads alongside a rotational band 6 and dietetic assistant. The critical care team has a strong MDT approach and you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of specialists. This role will deliver specialist clinical work, support service development, audit and provide the opportunity to supervise junior team members.

We are a supportive and forward-thinking department, keen to explore and support extended roles within specialisms and strengthen the dietitian’s role within the MDT to minimise delays in treatment, optimise of nutritional status in a timely manner and improve patient care.

The role will provide an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to continue to develop their own dietetic experience and portfolio. Main duties of the job

To assist the provision and optimisation of nutritional status of critically unwell patients admitted at Salford Care Organisation.  This will involve close working with ward teams and the wider MDT to further develop the service and deliver a high quality of care. There will also be opportunities to work with the wider dietetic team.

You will provide highly specialist nutrition and dietetic assessments to all patients admitted to Critical Care. This will involve making dietary recommendations after calculation of nutritional requirements based on interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, anatomy and physiology, clinical condition/prognosis and other physical parameters.

In addition to your own clinical you will be involved in MDTs, ward rounds, service development. Data collection and interpretation to aid quality improvement work will also be incorporated into the role.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • State registration with HCPC
  • BSc degree or Post Grad/MSc in dietetics
Desirable criteria
  • Member of BDA
  • Evidence of further study relevant to post
  • Member of CCSG or other relevant specialist group/s

Knowledge, skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of nutritional needs and nutritional assessment in a range of clinical conditions
  • Working knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and current best practice for dietetic management
  • Experience of MDT working
  • Basic IT skills
  • Able to devise enteral feeding plans
  • Relevant knowledge of national policies / guidelines relating to critical care
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound clinical reasoning skills and justification of dietetic intervention
  • Ability to work independently to complete assessments
  • Able to recognise own limitations in knowledge and seek guidance and further support as needed
  • Good written and communication skills without the use of AI
  • Able to record keep in line with local and HCPC standards
