Senior Assistant Psychologist - Neuropsychology

Job overview

We are excited to offer this Senior Assistant Psychologist post in the Northern Care Alliance, based in the Department of Clinical Neuropsychology.

We have full- and part-time opportunities within neuropsychology outpatient services.

You will assist with the overall development of the Neuropsychology provision within the outpatient services at Salford Royal Hospital:

You will be involved in:

-          Assessments, formulations, and interventions for patients referred to the department.  

-          You will hold responsibilities for maintaining patient databases and assisting in audit and service evaluation.

-          Some of our outpatient posts involve supporting clinicians during awake craniotomies and fMRI.

-          You will have opportunities to co-facilitate group therapies such as anxiety management, lifestyle medicine, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, cognitive rehabilitation and an online psychoeducation course.

You will be employed and have access to the support system within the NCA, one of the largest NHS organisations in the country, with one of the strongest and most diverse Neuropsychology teams.

Main duties of the job

Professional Duties

·         Conducting and accurately scoring neuropsychological assessment for people with a neurological condition/brain injury.

·         Support assessment and intervention with families and carers of individuals with neurological difficulties.

·         Direct clinical work: including intervention for behavioural, emotional or cognitive problems occurring as a result of a neurological condition (individually or in groups).

·         Contribute to trans-disciplinary assessment and intervention work.

·         Attend trans-disciplinary team meetings and represent the neuropsychology service.

·         Be an active participant in meetings and working groups with the broader neuropsychology service as part of NCA.

·         Maintain accurate records of contact.

·         Maintain up to date and accurate databases for neuropsychology services.

·         Assist in the evaluation and auditing of neuropsychology services.

  • Contribute to service evaluation and research activity.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience in a relevant job role.
  • Professional knowledge gained through academic study
  • Previous experience of working directly with people who present with cognitive, behavioural or emotional difficulties.
  • Ability to demonstrate support of the values and beliefs of the NCA
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to organise information and data
  • Ability to work with an liaise with a range of professionals and services
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within a team
  • Previous research and audit experience
  • Previous experience of using neuropsychological or psychometric tests
  • Psychological knowledge and skills developed through personal experiences

Registration / Qualfifications

Essential criteria
  • Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Honours Degree in Psychology (2:1 minimum)
