The successful candidate will join an established team to undertake research in brain tumours within the Neuro-Oncology team.

These are substantially research posts. It also includes a clinical Neurosurgical commitment with participation in the Neurosurgical Registrar on-call rota covering the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences at Salford Royal Hospital.

Please note: We reserve the right to close the vacancy once a suitable number of applicants have applied.

Main duties of the job

This fully funded post arises from the dual initiatives of developing Neurosurgery as a research theme, and increasing the clinical strength of the Department of Neurosurgery for its on-call rota.

The appointee will join an established team of researchers at the University of Manchester focusing on the development of innovative treatment strategies against intrinsic brain tumours (neuro-oncology).

Brain tumour research in Manchester is both imaging and laboratory based.

The supervision of the posts will be determined by the nature of the project but the project will be led by Mr David Coope, and Professor Andrew King within the remit of the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre (https://gjbrainresearch.org ).

The successful candidate will be initially be to support funded projects and deliver on a number of ready-to-write publications for a period of 1 year. There will be the potential to expand/convert the work to acquire a research degree (MPhil/MD/PhD), if appropriate for the career development of the post holder.
