Job overview

We have exciting opportunities for a part time Band 6 Orthotist starting March 2025  22.5 hours week  ( 0.7WTE ) 

This is a fantastic opportunity to work as part of a larger clinical team within Greater Manchester of 10 qualified Orthotists. It will give the post holder extensive exposure to all areas within Orthotics including Major Trauma, spinal, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and paediatrics, as well as mentorship and the peer support network you would expect being part of a larger clinical team 

We will welcome applicants with a good overall background in Orthotics as well as additional in-depth experience in all areas of clinical orthotics such as spinal, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and Paediatric presentations.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a team delivering providing an Orthotic service across the NCA . This include inpatient and outpatient services across 4 sites , as well as some community clinics and specialist schools. It is anticipated you will be mainly based at any one site, with opportunities to cover and rotate to different sites with difference specialties as and when required. This will aid in developing your knowledge and skills within all the specialist areas. 

As a qualified Orthotist, you will undertake the clinical examination and assessment, diagnosis and treatment of these patients. You will be expected to do this within an appropriate timeframe and with suitably sourced orthoses for prescription, quality and cost. You will work within BAPOs best practice guidelines and ensure the planned outcome measures for patients’ Orthotic management are met.

Person specification

Registration / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Honours Degree Prosthetics/Orthotics or recognised equivalent
  • State (HCPC) Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post qualification clinical practice, including working within Major Trauma , Spinal , Neuro, MSK and Paediatrics
  • Knowledge of current practice of Other AHP’s and Healthcare practitioners
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of IT Systems ( Including OPAS )

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Basic workshop and machine skills.
  • Knowledge of procurement of appropriate best value orthoses using accurate prescriptions based on orthotic therapy for stock & custom orthotic supply.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Communication skills for conveying sensitive and complex information to patients and carers including children and patients with learning difficulties, mental illness or distress.
  • Communicate visually, verbally and in writing, patient information and professional knowledge comprehensively to all levels of Healthcare professions and support staff.
