Palliative Care Counsellor

Trosolwg o'r swydd
This is a position for a qualified counsellor to work flexibly across the Northern Care Alliance, providing a service for Salford residents. They will work within the Specialist Palliative Care team, and work with a selection of clients for assessment and ongoing counselling support to meet the individuals’ needs. Clients will include people who have been given a life limiting diagnosis, their significant others
· The post holder will provide counselling to adults who have been given a life limiting diagnosis, and their significant others.
· The post holder will work therapeutically with clients and their families in hospital, or at a health centre.
· The post holder will provide clinical supervision to health care workers within the palliative care, bereavement and chaplaincy service as directed by the line manager.
· They will manage their own caseloads and supervise more junior staff or students when required.
· The post holder will support learning and development of other Trust members by providing teaching sessions as directed by the line manager.
The post holder will be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of their own work and be able to work as part of a team.

To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of clients and to manage this efficiently and effectively regarding clinical priorities and use of time.
To undertake the comprehensive specialist assessment of clients, including those with complex presentation.
To ensure a high standard of care for the clients under your management.
To provide advice, guidance and support to other members of the healthcare team as required.
To advise on alternative services for clients who are not appropriate for the Specialist Palliative Care Counselling Service, and to refer clients directly to specialist services when appropriate.
When working with adults who are parents/carers of children up to the age of 18yrs it is required that the needs of their children are assessed to ensure that appropriate services are delivered to these children and families.
To adhere to all relevant British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework (or equivalent) requirements for Counsellors.

Qualifications and profeesional requirement

- • Minimum of a diploma- level (or equivalent) qualification in Counselling.
- • British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists registered or equivalent

- • Training Certificate in Supervision
- • Training in Relationship therapy/Couple Counselling
- BACP Accreditation or working towards accredited status
Knowledge, Training & Experience, Skills & Abilities

- • Significant experience of working within a client centred model
- • Demonstrable post- qualification counselling experience in an NHS primary care, or mental health care setting
- • Knowledge and experience of using evaluation outcome measures
- • Demonstrate the management of therapeutic endings
- • Knowledge of theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies.
- • Ability to be self-reflective and to use Clinical Supervision appropriately
- • Ability to work independently, organise own caseload and workload
- • Knowledge and experience of basic IT skills (e.g. MS Word, Internet, Email)
- • Evidence of supervising other staff and students,
- • Demonstrate the ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multimedia materials suitable for presentation within public, professional and academic settings.
- • Ability to travel to location within Salford.
