Job overview

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a motivated, dedicated, and innovative Specialised Physiotherapist to join the Adult Metabolic service based at Salford Care Organisation. The Metabolic Unit is one five centres in England and provides outpatient service for patients throughout the North of England, including transition patients, satellite, and telehealth clinics. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic Physiotherapist, to join our team in the specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients with inborn errors of metabolism who have highly complex and chronic multi-system conditions, patients come from across the North of England, Isle of Man and North Wales. A prior work experience in this field is not essential but a wider general experience in neurology or learning disabilities would be beneficial.

 You will be able to demonstrate a caring and compassionate nature, with great interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrate initiative when providing holistic care to patients. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work autonomously within Trust policy and professional practice and maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records.

 To comply with statutory requirements for physiotherapy and with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and HPC standards and codes of professional conduct.

To perform specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who will have inherited metabolic disorders.

 To triage, determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, implement, evaluate, and modify individualised treatment programmes, ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.

To perform scheduled protocol specific physiotherapy assessments of metabolic patients who are participating in clinical trials.

 To educate and train students physiotherapists within the organisation, including other qualified and non-qualified healthcare staff.

To access supervision through peer support, clinical supervision, and special interest group supervision.

To deputise for the physiotherapy lead when required. 

Contribute to data collection for both local and national audits.

To take a lead on the delivery of live virtual exercise classes for adults with inherited metabolic disorders.
