Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered clinician to join Tameside and Glossop  CAMHS and take a pivotal role in leading and delivering the Autism assessment and diagnostic pathway within Tameside and Glossop  CAMHS.

We are seeking to employ a highly motivated and skilled senior clinician to join and expand our dynamic, friendly multi-disciplinary team and be a part of CAMHS transformation long term plan.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a member of a multi-disciplinary CAMHS team and will be responsible for providing mental health assessments and psychotherapeutic interventions for children, adolescents and families using evidence based interventions presenting with neuro developmental disorders and other mental health difficulties.

The post holder will build on existing links with the ADHD Lead in  CAMHS to work towards developing an internal neurodevelopmental pathway. The post holder will also have key links with colleagues in Tameside and Glossop  neurodevelopment and will be a identified person along with the ADHD Lead and CAMHS Operational Manager within  CAMHS to represent the service with wider stakeholders involved in the local Autism strategy

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for managing, developing, and delivering a clinician led clinic for CYP requiring a social communication assessment ensuring a high quality of assessment is achieved for children and young people from age 5 years old up to 18 years of age in accordance with NICE guidelines.

The post holder will be responsible for clinically supervising CAMHS staff in devising/ recommending needs led support following an ASD diagnosis, taking into consideration complex neurodevelopmental and co morbid presentations, this will require the post holder to liaise with other agencies regarding the implementation of care plans and the management of risk for children and young people.

Provide specialist ASD consultation, advice and training to colleagues in within  CAMHS to help to develop core skills within the team.

The role is extremely varied and as a service we are interested in playing to your clinical strengths and developing your clinical interests and skills. You will receive ongoing support through regular monthly clinical supervision and separate line management. You will also be actively encouraged to be part of peer supervision and will have the opportunity in your job plan to attend specialist treatment modality consultations. As part of your professional development you will supported in pursing and  attending any in house training and will have external opportunities to embark on further professional qualifications relevant to the post.

Working hours are predominately Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, though there is plenty of opportunity to work flexibly as we are looking to expand our opening hours as part of our service transformation plans.

As a valued member of the team your voice will be included in key service developments. As a team we are interested in hearing new ideas and creative ways of working to meet the needs of our service users and support quality improvements.

The successful post holders will need the following key attributions:

  • Strong Children and Young Person’s mental health knowledge and experience.
  • Experience of using training, supervision and consultation as a means of helping other professionals to support the mental health of CYP.

• Good understanding and commitment to the CAMHS transformation agenda. 

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered clinician with an accrediting professional body with clinical experience and evidence of further training in short courses to master level
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification in evidence based interventions
  • Masters degree in relevant subject matter to the post

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Team worker within and beyond organisational boundaries
  • Able to develop links with other professional networks
  • Extensive practice in the field of ADHD and ASD including assessment formulation and delivery of interventions
  • Experience of holding and managing complex case load.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to evaluate effectiveness, manage change of provisions to meeting the needs of adults and their carers
  • Experience of delivering professionals training
  • Clinical and/or managerial supervisory responsibilities of junior staff
  • ADOS trained or ADI trained

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Theoretical approaches to CYP mental Health
  • DSM V criteria for ASD
  • ICD 11 criteria for Autism
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policy and procedures
  • Awareness of common mental health comorbidities found in CYP with ASD
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of pharmacology in relation to ADHD.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to run Clinician led clinic
  • Develop information for families/service users
  • Giving clear formulation in conjunction with DSM V criteria in conjunction with MDT.
  • Provide advice and consultation to colleagues
  • Planning needs led support following assessment.
  • Ability to work as part of MDT and partners.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching, training, and supervision
  • Experience of planning and carrying out group/individual work
