Principle Clinical Psychologist - Band 8A - 28.5 Hours
We are seeking a neuropsychologist/ clinical psychologist with extensive experience in neuro-rehabilitation, who is passionate about excellent patient care and promoting psychological understandings and support in interdisciplinary settings.
A successful applicant would lead and deliver psychological provision within the Community Neuro-rehabilitation service here in Stockport NHS Trust, an integrated community stroke and neuro-rehabilitation team. The post-holder will enjoy a broad and stimulating range of clinical work, both directly with service users and their carers/families and indirectly through consultation, training, clinical leadership and service development. Given the breadth of the service, an excellent range of neuro-rehabilitation experience will be available (including acquired brain injuries, progressive and degenerative conditions and functional neurological disorders), with specialist external supervision provided from a qualified clinical neuropsychologist.
This is a really friendly and welcoming multidisciplinary team, where psychology input is very well established and appreciated, and good links are in place to local mental health and third sector organisations. There are many opportunities to shape and develop local services and pathways, to contribute to DClinPsy training, and get involved with regional networks and initiatives.
Main duties of the job
- To lead provision of psychology services within community neurorehabilitation in Stockport, ensuring delivery and development in line with local strategic commissioning and national clinical guidelines.
- To deliver high quality psychological assessments and interventions relevant to a broad range of presenting difficulties, including emotional and adjustment issues, cognitive difficulties, systemic issues and psychological aspects of physical health such as Functional Neurological Disorder.
- To provide clinical supervision to other qualified or pre-qualified psychological staff, as well as colleagues from other disciplines undertaking psychological work.
- To provide advice, guidance and consultation on psychological and neuropsychological aspects of rehabilitation to the team and other health professionals throughout Stockport.
- To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
- To work in an interdisciplinary manner together with colleagues in other mental and physical health care teams and in close collaboration with Social Services

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be based in the Community Neuro-rehabilitation Service (CNRS) in Stockport, an integrated service for adults who have experienced a stroke or who have a neurological condition. The post holder will lead psychological provision in the service, providing high quality assessment and intervention work and clinical leadership, through direct work as well as consultation, training and supervision, working closely with qualified psychology and broader multi-disciplinary colleagues.
If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Doctoral Qualification in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent e.g. with a Statement of Equivalence, or via ‘Grandparented’ route) as accredited by the BPS.
- Registration with the Health Professionals Council
- Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology and eligibility for entry to the British Psychological Society’s Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists
- Additional training and qualification in psychological and/or neuro-psychological theory, practice and/or therapy relevant to this post
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology
Knowlege
Essential criteria
- • In depth knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological aspects of neuro-rehabilitation relevant to the breadth of this role, including traumatic brain injury & stroke, as well as other acute, or long term and/or life limiting conditions
- • In depth knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological care in relation to physical health and long term conditions relevant to the breadth of this role
- • Knowledge of psychological understandings of Functional Neurological Disorder, and psychological approaches to assessment and intervention relevant to MDT settings
- • In depth knowledge and skill in the use of complex methods of psychological and neuropsychological assessment, including formal cognitive/neuropsychological assessment, synthesis of complex medical and other information, individual and family interview and observation, interdisciplinary liaison
- • In depth knowledge of complex psychological interventions and case management, including high level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies relevant to this post, and their use with broad populations including those with physical health conditions
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Extensive experience of delivering specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments and treatments of clients with a broad range of physical health and neurological conditions
- • Experience of training, consultation and/or supervision for non-psychologist staff in psychological aspects of care and/or rehabilitation.
- • Experience of delivering clinical supervision
- • Experience in leading aspects of service development and delivery, including prioritisation of limited resources and implementing service improvements relevant to psychological care
- • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team around physical health and/or neuro-rehabilitation
