To assist in providing high quality, safe patient care through the delivery of an effective, efficient and responsive administrative and clerical service which meets the needs of the service. 

This will be achieved by working in a supportive team, supporting colleagues, other Trust services if required, the senior medical administration team and management, to ensure the team provide effective administrative tasks.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide typing support to the Emergency Department.
  • To provide clerical support to the Emergency Department.
  • To open mail, collate patient results and scan to electronic patient records.
  • To process patient letters to prepare for postage.
  • To understand and interpret functional/medical/legal terms and organisational policies
  • Ability to deal with non-routine issues such as problem solving
  • Act as the link between consultants, clinicians and other areas to ensure care is delivered in a coordinated and efficient way.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Providing full secretarial support to the Emergency Department Senior Team including Medical, Nursing and Operational team including all associated correspondence

Ensuring diagnostic tests that have been requested by the Emergency Department Team are reviewed where necessary by the Emergency Department Consultant.

Typing of coroner letters, statements for the police and correspondence to patients, GP surgeries etc.

 Liaising with and dealing with enquiries from patients/relatives, general practitioners Consultant medical staff, other hospital and community staff and other agencies as necessary.

  • Appropriate ICT/keyboard skills/audio typing skills/medical terminology qualifications or demonstrable equivalent experience

  • Good general standard of education to GSCE level C or above in English and maths or equivalent or relevant experience
  • RSA II Typing or equivalent OR equivalent typing experience
