Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist to join the Hand Therapy team within the Out Patient Therapy Department at Stepping Hill Hospital.
The post holder will work as a member of the multi professional Out Patient therapy team delivering hand therapy for patients presenting with a variety of hand related conditions. Referrals are received mainly from the hospital based Trauma and Orthopaedic service via elective and fracture clinics as well as from the established Rheumatology service and Emergency Department.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate, will be expected to work autonomously and independently, managing a caseload of hand related conditions, providing assessment and treatment , including custom made splints, as part of the multidisciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role will require the successful applicant to take part in the supervision of therapy assistants and undergraduate students as appropriate.
In return, this post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to further develop clinical skills and the department offers regular in-service training opportunities and a supervision programme to support development. The successful candidate will therefore need to demonstrate clear evidence of good clinical experience and knowledge of hand conditions, display sound clinical reasoning, excellent time management skills and an enthusiasm for a positive approach to healthcare and self-management principles.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Diploma/Degree in OT/Physiotherapy
- State Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Evidence of continual professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Membership of CSP/COT
- Evidence of CPD postgraduate learning related to musculoskeletal conditions
- Clinical Educator’s Course.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of current best practice in physical and psychological interventions in OT/MSK Physiotherapy
- Knowledge and application of standardised assessments.
- Computer literacy.
- Knowledge of Nice Guidance and current practice.
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance since its application.
- Knowledge of intermediate care and community/support services.
- Knowledge of discharge planning processes. Up to date in professional practice and new research.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist
- Experience working with conditions with complex symptom presentation
- Wide experience in outpatients, covering all areas of OT/MSK work
- Experience supporting junior staff, support staff and /or students.
- Experience of working as part of a Multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of research or audit.
