Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated, hard working team player to join our runner/reception team at SHH main theatres. Applicants must be flexible and able to work as part of a larger team. The post will be full time and on the job training will be given. This role will be split between patient collection/return and reception duties.
Main duties of the job
To ensure accurate/quality controlled information is gathered together for the patient admission to Operating Theatres including ensuring timely preparation of Elective Theatre lists in readiness for the day’s activity.
- To ensure patients documentation is correct on arrival to reception and deal with any discrepancies in a timely manner to ensure patients are seen without delay.
- To ensure that patients are sent for in a timely manner in order to optimise the efficiency of Operating Theatres. This may mean the post holder will be required to retrieve patients from the ward in order to prevent elective lists being delayed.
- Assisting in the transportation of patients to and from the wards and within the Operating Theatres as required.
- Ensuring patient trolleys are in good working order and stocked accordingly.
- Daily checking and replacement of empty oxygen cylinders within theatres and under patient trolleys.
- Participate in routine cleaning and maintenance of patient trolleys and replacement of linen.
- Effective communication on the telephone, directing enquiries appropriately.
- Dealing with the patients, general public and relatives of patients attending the reception area, giving a polite and professional service. Responsible for keeping and maintaining a clean and tidy reception area at all times.
- Distributing post, photocopying, sending and receiving faxes and directing as appropriate in a timely manner.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To receive and register patients on arrival to the Operating Theatre reception, following the agreed procedures and obtaining relevant and accurate information and utilising ORMIS. Escalation of any changes that are made to operating list to the appropriate team/practitioners.
- To support the nursing staff with any clerical/administrative duties.
- Liaison with other departments.
- Responsible for booking minor maintenance jobs to ensure quality service delivery and continuity.
- Facilitate the emergency service (with a high degree of urgency).
- To communicate and liaise effectively with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure Operating Theatres run without disruption.
- To deal with telephone enquiries in a polite and professional manner. Ensure that all queries are attended to as soon as possible and conveying any messages to the appropriate personnel.
- To undertake any other duties which is deemed appropriate to the band when requested by Senior Staff.
- To deal with enquiries and take necessary action on behalf of and in the absence of work colleagues.
- To undertake departmental audits as and when required.
- The Post Holder will take responsibility for ensuring work is prioritised and agreed standards are met.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.
