Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Therapy Technical Instructor within the T&O Integrated Therapy team.
You must have significant experience as a Band 2 or 3 Therapy Assistant or currently be working as a Band 4 Technical Instructor. You must be well motivated, enthusiastic and committed to delivering high quality care and service delivery to patients who have a wide range of orthopaedic conditions.
You will be working under the guidance of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists carrying out a range of assessments/reviews of patients both on the In - Patient wards and in the Pre – operative Education Groups for elective joint replacements. You will be undertaking a range of tasks independently within a supported environment. You will be able to work flexibly depending on the needs of the service.
The In - Patient Integrated Therapy Department is committed to continuing professional development and has an established in-service training programme.

Main duties of the job
To support the qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in providing a Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy service to the orthopaedic elective and trauma wards.
They will work flexibly across all disciplines (Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy) to provide holistic care and meet service needs.
They will be responsible for an identified caseload of non-complex patients with indirect supervision from a registered therapist, implementing therapy led treatment plans to provide rehabilitation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To carry out assessments and therapy activities with patients with non-complex needs. This will include gathering of history and physical examination in order to plan and deliver an effective therapy intervention following Trust clinical standards, guidelines and SOPS
· Prepare patients for treatment ensuring a safe environment.
· To assist patients with independent prescribed practice provided by registered therapists.
· To work alongside therapists/other assistants to run patient activity groups as required.
· To be required to work alone in line with relevant policies.
· To lead on audits as requested by the team lead, including audits to review compliance with documentation standards
· Modify and update care and therapy goal plans to reflect patient needs and participate in weekly goal setting meetings.
· Make referrals to other agencies e.g Outpatient Therapies or Discharge to assess
· Assist in ordering relevant equipment to promote patient’s independence.
· Monitor stock and keep up-to-date with documentation i.e. filing and photocopying.
· With training and under guidance from Therapists provide pre-operative assessment for elective Orthopaedic patients

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

Education
Essential criteria
- Relevant Foundation Degree or equivalent qualifications or can demonstrate equivalent experience in relevant clinical area
- GCSEs (Grade C or above) in Maths and English Language or equivalent (Eg. Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English)
Desirable criteria
- Attended relevant courses.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy practice / guidelines relating to older people
- Knowledge and understanding of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of policies and procedures e.g. safe manual handling, equipment, discharge pathways
- Underpinning knowledge and practice to support interventions required to safely assist patients to meet their optimum potential.
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to keep accurate and legible patient records.
- Ability to organise caseload and manage time effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively and adapt style in response to needs of patients and carers.
- Ability to motivate and encourage reluctant and challenging patients, using negotiation and persuasion skills.
- Competent IT skills eg basic use of Word, Excel, Powerpoint
