Job overview

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, caring, and experienced Therapy Assistant to be part of their Community Neuro-Rehabilitation Service; facilitating the early supported discharge of stroke patients and providing rehabilitation to patients with a neurological condition.

Main duties of the job

Based in the community, the successful applicant will work within a comprehensive multidisciplinary team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Therapy Assistants, Nurse and Admin.

The post holder will be a committed member of the coordinated and forward-thinking team delivering a service to facilitate patients’ successful transition from the acute Stroke Unit into the community setting and also work with patients with acute and long term neurological conditions to provide rehabilitation in the home environment within the Stockport area.

Support is provided through the opportunity to work directly with experienced and specialist clinicians across the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will carry out rehabilitation programmes directed by the Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist and Nurse, with regular reviews of patient goals, and progression of rehabilitation programmes. Alongside direct patient care, the post holder with support the team with basis admin, service development and housekeeping activities.

As this is a community role, the successful candidate will need to be a car driver with a UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • G.C.S.E. English
  • • Fluency in spoken English
  • • GCSE Maths

  • • NVQ level 3 in Diagnostic and Therapy Support

Experience

  • • Previously worked in Healthcare/Allied Health Professional setting

Knowlgege

  • • Understand the day-to-day role of a Therapy Assistant
  • • Awareness of the roles of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses and Clinical Psychologists
  • • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualifications

  • • NVQ level 3 in Diagnostic and Therapy Support
