Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a 12 month secondment post for a Lead within Trafford Local Care Organisation Bladder and Bowel Services, to cover for maternity leave. The post holder will be a core member of the Adult Nursing management team, working collaboratively to deliver high quality care in Trafford and to develop a locally appropriate integrated approach to delivery of care. The post holder will contribute to the improvement strategy and represent community nursing at forums and groups across the Neighbourhood and Locality/Borough.

Within this role the post holder will be clinically responsible for the assessment of patients presenting with Bladder & Bowel needs, development of care plans, and the implementation of the care. He/she will provide advice and guidance to the multidisciplinary team and ensure all records and documentation are completed and relevant. The post will require enhanced communication skills to deal with the broad range of issues involved in the day-to-day leadership of the integrated nursing team within the neighbourhood.  The post holder is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Bladder & Bowel team within the locality. The role ensures teams deliver a safe high-quality service.

 

 

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical, operational leadership for the Bladder and Bowel Service.

Perform comprehensive assessments of patients affected by bladder and/or bowel conditions in line with national and local guidelines, policies and procedures.

Perform advanced clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis and treatment, including performing and interpreting urinalysis, bladder and bowel charting, ultrasound bladder scans, pelvic floor and digital rectal examination.

Act as a resource and provide advanced specialist clinical advice, information and support to Trust staff on the management of continence needs.

Develop and evaluate policies/guidelines/protocols relevant to continence, bladder and/ or bowel.

Provide a highly visible clinical profile, having both an advisory and direct clinical input into patient care.

Lead, organise and deliver specific bladder and bowel education programmes for health care professionals to improve clinical competencies and support clinical teams to deliver a high quality patient centred service.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC level one registration.
  • Willingness to undertake Nurse prescribing qualification
  • Evidence of bladder and bowel specific qualification(s).
  • Evidence of consistent professional education and development.
  • Health care related degree or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching / assessor / mentor qualification
  • Post graduate qualification in Bladder and Bowel specialty
  • Nurse prescribing qualification V100 or V150
  • IT skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • RN – Relevant experience at Band 6 in the relevant setting to demonstrate in depth experience
  • Evidence of nursing experience within area of bladder and/or bowel care and /or stoma care
  • The ability to work independently
  • Male/female catheterisation
  • Supervision skills.
  • Team leadership skills
  • Evidence of service development
  • Caseload management experience
  • Experience of Change management.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Ability to demonstrate innovative practice.
  • Experience of working in the community setting
