Job overview

As an Equipment and Wheelchair Support Worker you will be responsible for delivering and installing equipment into people’s homes.

The role is essential to support people in maintaining independence and enabling them to live at home for as long as possible.

An understanding of the difficulties faced through disability is essential along with a compassionate and empathetic approach.

Good communication skills are essential.

Salford Community Equipment Service is responsible for providing equipment to Salford residents to assist them in maintaining independence.

With warehousing facilities on Wardley Industrial Estate the service has a variety of roles including Equipment and Wheelchair Support Workers

The Equipment and Wheelchair Support Workers deliver and fit daily living equipment into people’s homes to assist with independence and sustain people living at home.

A full clean driving licence is essential with the willingness to drive a large box van

A good level of physical fitness is required as the role entails multiple deliveries and fitting of equipment, sometimes in small environments.

Main duties of the job

  • An understanding of the needs of disabled people is essential within this role along with patience, empathy and compassion.

  • The ability to adapt to situations is essential along with good communication skills

 

  • Equipment is wide ranging and some of it is large and bulky, a good level of physical fitness is needed to fulfil the role.

 

  • A full, clean driving licence is essential along with the ability to drive a large box type van

 

  • Health and safety is essential within this role so an understanding of the need to follow procedures and a good understanding of moving and handling and road safety is essential.
