Wigan Children’s Services are developing a new multi-disciplinary Safeguarding Adolescent Service and have an exciting opportunity to recruit via GMMH a Band  8A Psychologist WTE

You will be part of Wigans ATOM service, which supports children who are on a trajectory of becoming looked after, children in fostering placements where they are likely to breakdown without intervention or supporting children to return to family-based care from residential homes.

You will be based and work  within a multi-agency adolescent safeguarding hub alongside a strong team of professionals from complex safeguarding, youth justice and targeted youth support.

We are looking for an experienced practitioner that is passionate about working with and improving services for children and adolescents experiencing complex extra-familial harm and can support a team or individuals to follow your developed formulation, offer regular consultation and deliver training.

There is also the opportunity within this role to work directly with children young people and their families, including parents and carers, as part of a wider trauma informed and trusted relationships approach.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to be primarily based within Wigan local authority Whilst being part of ATOM team. The role will be based with colleagues in targeted youth support services, alongside other colleagues in the council as identified in the assessed needs of the children/their family and within GMMH Manchester Rd CAMHS. The post holder will be expected to provide a specialist / highly specialist Psychology service to children and young people, their families, and carers.  The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessments, formulation and therapeutic intervention for children and young people referred to the service and psychological consultation to other professionals involved in their care.

The psychologist will form part of a multi professional multi agency team that supports children young people families and their carers who are on the edge of care. The successful candidate will work closely with the senior managers local authority staff CAMHS and wider agencies to ensure a psychologically informed and trauma informed service delivery system.
