Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist to join the North West Ventilation Service on a 12-month secondment as a Specialist Physiotherapist in long-term ventilation and cough augmentation therapy.

Main duties of the job

The North West Ventilation Service is a tertiary referral centre for long-term ventilation and cough augmentation therapy, based at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester. The services cares for approximately 1700 patients across the North West region, who have a diagnosis of neuromuscular, chronic respiratory, obesity and chest wall related breathing disorders. We have approximately 40 tracheostomy invasively ventilated patients living in the community.

This post will provide experience in all aspects of long-term ventilation (non-invasive and tracheostomy invasive) and cough augmentation therapy across the patient's clinical pathway. Extensive multi-disciplinary working is essential within our specialist team of Nurses, Physiotherapists, Physiologist, Occupational Therapists and Doctors and the successful candidate will be expected to supervise unregistered and student team members from these professions. There is a requirement to work within both inpatient, outpatient and community settings across a seven-day service.

There will be opportunities to engage in service/quality improvement projects, research and audit.

The successful candidate will have experience in the field of respiratory care and critical care. This should include non-invasive and invasive ventilation, cough augmentation therapy and tracheostomy care/management. Experience of working within a community setting would be advantageous. A full UK driving license and access to a car is essential for this position.
