Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity  for a  Consultant Clinical Geneticist  in Developmental Disorders to join the Genomic Medicine Service in Manchester. This is a replacement post. The 10PA/week appointment will be based within Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine, St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester. The post will involve delivery of General and Developmental Disorder clinics and a special interest complementary to those of the existing service would be welcome. A request to work part-time will be considered.

Main duties of the job

This is a 10PA WTE  post  but suitably qualified applicants who wish to work part time will be considered.  We welcome applications from established consultants and senior trainees who will be within 6 months of completion of specialist training .  This role offers the opportunity to work in a functionally autonomous department within a major teaching and research institute, adjacent to one of the largest University Campus’s in Western Europe and in collaboration with the largest Undergraduate Medical School in the United Kingdom.
The postholder will contribute to the delivery of General Genetic and Developmental Disorder services based at St Mary’s Hospital within Manchester University Foundation Trust.  There is an expectation that this role would also include a monthly clinic at one of the peripheral clinic sites. The development of a specialist interest, fitting within the overall needs and interests of the department, is actively encouraged.
Core aspects of this role include assessing patients in outpatient clinics,  acute and urgent ward consultations providing advice to GPs and other colleagues; case note reviews and appropriate follow up of genetic cases; triaging of referrals;  participation in multidisciplinary meetings with colleagues outside genetics to support the mainstreaming process as well as MDTs organised by the GLH to assist variant interpretation. The clinical supervision and support of  clinical genetics trainees and genetic counsellors is also expected.
