Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-faith/ belief team at the Northern Care Alliance Trust based at Salford Care Organisation. As a member of the Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care team, you will be working in a diverse setting, and will be required to respond to the spiritual, religious, cultural and pastoral needs of patients, visitors and colleagues. This full-time position or potential job share includes participating in a shared on-call rota with other chaplains and would require you to be able to travel to the hospital within an hour.
Previous experience of healthcare chaplaincy and the NHS is essential. You will provide spiritual care to all seeking support. This will involve ward visiting to provide general pastoral/ emotional care etc; leading and facilitating services/ rituals according to requirements; sharing in the recruitment and supervision of band 5 chaplains and chaplaincy volunteers; and responding to referrals. You will lead in providing spiritual care in critical care and high dependency areas. You will support and assist the Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Manager in the management of the department and development of the chaplaincy team/service.
This post is ideal for people who are highly motivated, knowledgeable, compassionate, diplomatic and creative. The chaplain will be able to provide spiritual care for service users and work with the team and wider Trust in addressing cultural and spiritual issues relating to health and care.
Main duties of the job
Main Purpose of the Job:
· To work within multi-faith chaplaincy and spiritual care team and to respond to the spiritual, religious, cultural and pastoral needs of all patients, visitors and staff.
· To participate in the provision of 24 hour chaplaincy service and be flexible to meet the requirements of on call.
· To assist in the management of the service and to deputise for the Chaplaincy Manager in their absence
To work in an integrated fashion, holding together management responsibilities, clinical pastoral work, education and teaching, committee and group work as well as responding to emergencies and the unexpected. You will need to work in a reactive as well as proactive manner and in accordance with Spiritual Care Standards as agreed by the College of healthcare Chaplains and the UK Board of Health Care Chaplains.
Due to identified occupational requirements identified in an equality analyses of service, this post holder will need to be an ordained or accredited minister endorsed by the Churches Together in England, with pastoral experience ‘Permitted under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010’. You will be eligible to work towards UKBHC registration. Qualifications/Professional Standards/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Ordained or accredited person and in good standing the Anglican Church or a part of the Free Churches Group of Churches Together in England.
- • Degree or equivalent in relevant subject. E.g. theology, pastoral care
- • Post based training relevant to healthcare chaplaincy.
- • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the NHS Healthcare Chaplaincy in acute settings
- • Knowledge and understanding of multi-faith/ belief needs and cultural requirements, and the related role and task of healthcare chaplaincy
- • Knowledge of and ability to provide rites of passage and rituals etc, particularly with the regard to the dying and for those seriously ill.
- • Knowledge and understand of Equality & Diversity
- • Understanding of Trust vales and behaviours
Desirable criteria
- • A certificate in counselling or other relevant specialist training
- • To be registered, or to be able to register as a chaplain with UKBHC
- • Experience of working with Mental Health
