Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Dietetic team in providing specialist dietetic care to complex nutrition support surgical inpatients at Aintree University Hospital.

You will be an integral member of the Surgical MDT managing the nutritional care of patients who have undergone emergency gastro-intestinal surgery.  The post holder will provide timely specialist Dietetic assessment for these patients with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in complex tube feeding, management of short bowel syndrome and Parenteral Nutrition.  You will be supported by the Nutrition Team and Senior Dietetic team.  The Dietetic team is highly respected within the Surgical MDT and a high focus is placed upon nutritional care.

You will work within a friendly and highly skilled department as part of the Therapies Service and have numerous opportunities for professional and personal development, including in-house training, peer support sessions and role specific education. You will be actively involved in audit and quality improvement projects

Main duties of the job

We welcome applications from suitably experienced Band 5 Dietitians and those already working at a Band 6 level who are enthusiastic to learn and are ready for a new challenge at a Band 6 level

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a practical, forward thinking approach to service development and evaluation and the ability to work as part of a large team.

This post requires a proactive approach where you contribute to innovation, service development and audit. You will be supported with your personal development goals and have regular clinical supervision and peer support. You will work closely day to day with a range of Surgical Teams and MDT members.

You will also be involved with supervision of Student Dietitians and Graduate Dietitians as part of your role, so strong leadership and communication skills are essential. You will work closely with the wider team to identify any quality issues within the service, contribute to local governance meetings and provide education for patients, staff and colleagues.
