Job overview

Due to the existing post holder acting up to Deputy Chief Financial Officer an exciting opportunity has arisen to join Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust as the Head of Finance on a dynamic 6-month secondment or fixed term contract.

You will lead the whole of the finance team overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and driving Trust financial sustainability across both management accounts and financial accounts functions.

Main duties of the job

 Manage and be responsible for the finance function of the Trust, including ensuring provision of high quality information and support to Directors, Managers and Clinicians, effective treasury management, ledger services, asset management and external financial reporting. 

 Ensure that financial control systems provide proper stewardship of resources and that the Trust complies with accounting standards and other guidance.

Provide expert financial accounting advice relating to external accounting reporting requirements, and also for robust treasury management. 

Provide professional and business planning advice to the Chief Finance Officer and other Directors on all financial technical aspects. Interpretation of highly complex changes in national policy and the financial implications impacting upon the WCHC.

Lead in maintaining financial information for SLAs and contract monitoring arrangements.

Manage the arrangements with shared services to ensure high quality services are secured, including  AP/AR/Ledger services, payroll, audit, and lease cars.

Qualifications and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • CCAB qualified accountant (or equivalent) with at least 3 years post qualification experience
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
  • Advanced ECDL (Excel) or equivalent proficiency

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • In depth technical accounting abilities & understanding of NHS finances
  • Managerial Experience
  • NHS Experience at a Senior Management level
  • Significant involvement in the Annual Published Accounts process
  • Knowledge & understanding of NHS developments and priorities
  • Ability to contribute to the strategic thinking and direction of the Community Trust
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced specialist knowledge of the financial issues affecting the NHS and in particular Community Trusts
  • Knowledge of relationships between NHS organisations, Local Authorities and other partners
  • Experience of working on service development and/or change management projects
