Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our Cystic fibrosis team for 30 hours per week.  Do you have a special interest in Cystic fibrosis?  Have you had experience of working with patient with chronic respiratory conditions and want to develop into a specialist field? This may be the position for you.

Main duties of the job

This is an great opportunity to join the Cystic fibrosis therapy team within a CQC rated ‘outstanding’ NHS specialist Trust.  We offer the opportunity to specialise in the physiotherapy management of Cystic fibrosis patients within the inpatient, outpatient, and community setting.

The role is ideally suited to an individual with a specialist interest in respiratory physiotherapy with previous or current experience of working with adults with chronic respiratory conditions.   Well-developed physiotherapy skills, proven ability to work as part of a team and experience of close working with the multi-disciplinary team is a necessity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role is 30 hours per week to be worked across four days.  Core service hours are Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm.  The successful candidate will be required to take part in the emergency respiratory late and on call service providing out of hours (weekend and on call) care to respiratory patients across the Trust.

The post holder will be expected to maintain up to date competencies and mandatory training. A driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use is also required, as part of the role may involve travel to patients’ homes and community settings.

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree/Msc in Physiotherapy.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Membership of relevant clinical interest group e.g. ACPCF, ACPRC, BTS
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post graduate study.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience working in respiratory care, across a variety of acute and chronic respiratory conditions within the NHS.
  • Experience of the supervision and development of students, band 5 physiotherapists and support workers.
  • Evidence of participation in service development and audit.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience at Band 6 level
  • Previous experience of working with Cystic Fibrosis patients.

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of recent and relevant CPD including attendance at courses relevant to respiratory physiotherapy.
  • Clinical reasoning skills based on evidence and current research
  • Knowledge of airway clearance techniques such as AD, OPEP, NIV etc.
  • Evidence of attendance at mandatory training.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the MDT and their differing contributions to patient care.
  • An ability to work as part of the MDT and communicate with all grades of staff
  • An ability to empathise and reassure.
  • Ability to take part in the out of hours physiotherapy on-call service on a rota basis.
Desirable criteria
  • IM & T Skills.
  • Evidence of presentation and teaching skills within physiotherapy.
