Job overview

To work with the Pharmacy Team in providing and developing an efficient and comprehensive pharmaceutical service for patients. To support Clinical Lead Pharmacists in the implementation of medicines management plans. To be professionally accountable for any pharmacy function for which they assume responsibility.

 

Main duties of the job

Band 7 Rotational Pharmacists will participate in our advanced level rotational training program, undertaking clinical rotations in areas such as Critical care, Cystic Fibrosis and Cardiology. The band 7 rotational post will participate in longer rotations (typically 6-9 months) allowing more in-depth training and will take on more senior responsibilities for their allocated specialty.

 

Rotational pharmacists also provide pharmaceutical services to the dispensary and are responsible for provision of pharmaceutical services out of hours.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         Assist in the provision of a clinical pharmacy service to a designated speciality on a rotational basis, according to the direction of the Education and Training Lead Pharmacist and the Clinical Services Manager.

·         Routine monitoring of prescriptions for legality, legibility, safety and appropriateness in accordance with the Medicines Act and the Trust’s Medicines Policy, which may involve concentration, frequent interruptions and may involve dose calculations.

·         Support in the development of the annual Pharmacy Business Plan.

·         Participate in practice research and clinical audit projects.

·         Participate in:

·         mandatory training in line with Trust and Departmental requirements

·         the provision of in-service training for pharmacy staff.  This will include updating staff on processes and procedures for medicines optimisation.

·         the training of student technicians and trainee pharmacists.

·         the Pharmacy education programme including presenting to the clinical pharmacy team.

·         the education and training of medical, nursing and other healthcare staff.

 

Essential criteria:

  •  Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council       
  • Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy
  • Postgraduate diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or successfully completed first year)
  • Completion of the Independent Prescribing Course or on track to compete within 1 year
  • Pre-registration training and experience
  • Demonstrable team working
  • Demonstrable commitment to CPD
  • Basic clinical knowledge in a range of topics
  • Post qualification experience in a relevant role practicing as a pharmacist.
  • Current and relevant clinical knowledge in area of speciality.
  • Demonstrable experience in training of other healthcare professional
  • Ability to work on initiative and as part of the team
  • Able to work independently and compute information from various sources quickly
  •  Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Able to accept responsibility for area of pharmacy practice
