Specialty Co-Ordinator Critical Care

Band 7

Job overview

Clinical Co-ordinator – Critical Care
Band 7 | 37.5 Hours per week x2 WTE

An exceptional opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic Critical Care team at Aintree Hospital as a Band 7 clinical coordinator. We are a 26 bedded critical care unit within a major trauma centre with a high volume of acute admissions from around the region. This is a rare chance for an ambitious, motivated and experienced critical care nurse to step into a senior leadership role within a fast-paced, high-performing environment where clinical excellence and patient outcomes are at the heart of everything we do.

We are seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Senior Sister/Charge Nurse who thrives under pressure, demonstrates strong clinical leadership, and is driven to make a meaningful difference to both patient care and team development.

Main duties of the job

You will bring extensive, up-to-date experience within a Level 2/3 Critical Care environment and be able to demonstrate a consistently high standard of clinical practice at a minimum of Band 6 level. You will be an excellent communicator with strong leadership capability, able to coordinate complex clinical activity and support a large multidisciplinary team.

Whilst a degree qualification is desirable, we will welcome applications from individuals who can evidence significant critical care experience and readiness for a leadership role. Ideally, applicants will hold (or be working towards) Step 4 competencies.

You will be recognised for your proactive, collaborative and innovative approach, with a clear commitment to patient-centred care, service improvement and maintaining high clinical standards within a fast-moving environment.

Working for our organisation

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital & Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

We are part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, formed on 1 Nov 2024 from the coming together of LUHFT and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust. The Group was born from a shared aim to improve the care we provide our patients.

UHLG is one of the largest employers in the region, with over 16,800 colleagues dedicated to caring for our communities - from birth and beyond.

For the 630,000 people across Merseyside, we are their local NHS. We provide general and emergency hospital care, alongside highly specialised regional services for more than two million people in the North West.

Aintree University Hospital is the single receiving site for adult major trauma patients in Cheshire and Merseyside and hosts a number of regional services including an award-winning stroke facility. Broadgreen Hospital is home to elective surgical, diagnostic and treatment services, together with specialist patient rehabilitation. Liverpool Women’s Hospital specialises in the health of women and babies, delivering over 7,200 babies in the UK’s largest single site maternity hospital each year. The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single bedrooms and focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In this role, you will lead and coordinate the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care across the unit, while managing operational pressures within a busy critical care setting. You will take accountability for staffing, patient flow and risk management, ensuring safe and timely progression of patients from admission through to discharge.

You will work closely with the Ward Manager, Matron, Consultants and wider multidisciplinary team, supporting service delivery and deputising for senior leaders as required. A key part of the role will include identifying risks, implementing timely actions, and contributing to ongoing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Our department provides care for 26 adult critical care beds (Level 2 and Level 3 capacity) and is recognised for its strong team culture, clinical expertise and high standards of care.
