Main duties of the job

Successful candidate will be expected to participate in the day-to-day provision of emergency medical care to patients in the Emergency Department and participate in the management of patients who have been involved in major trauma or who have life threatening illnesses.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Be expected to participate in the day-to-day provision of emergency medical care to patients in the Emergency Department and participate in the management of all patients who have been involved in major trauma or who have life-threatening illnesses.
  • Supervise the work of the Foundation level and Specialty Trainees, ACPs and ENPs, participating fully in their training as required and appropriate.
  • Participate in the day-to-day work of the Department at a middle grade level under the direction of the Consultant responsible.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration and a licence to practice (or eligibility to apply for by proposed start date)
  • Evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competencies in a relevant specialty at the time of application and likelihood of achieving ST2/CT2 competencies in a relevant specialty by the start date of the post; or able to demonstrate achievement of the necessary equivalent competencies
Desirable criteria
  • MRCEM A & B or equivalent Diploma in Emergency Medicine Advanced Life Support (essential on appointment)

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 4 years full time postgraduate training (or its equivalent) gained on a part time or flexible basis at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a Fixed Term Specialty Trainee; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies
  • Experience working within the NHS at this level.
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge

  • Evidence of having supervised junior staff.
