Job overview
We are currently recruiting B3 Clinical Support Workers who are committed to delivering excellent patient care to join our first class team.
Experience is preferable but not essential as intensive training will be given and you will have the opportunity to develop your personal skills.

Main duties of the job
- To work within the Endoscopy Day Case Unit of Gastroenterology.
- Caring for patients, within a framework of high quality standards of care and practice. Taking into account patients’ social,
psychological and physical needs. - Undertake Endoscopy training requirements which include assisting with
endoscopic and clinical procedures and the re-processing of equipment in line with the British Gastroenterology Society. - Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
- Maintain strict infection control standards

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
▪ To assist the qualified nursing staff in maintaining patient standards of care
▪ To work under the supervision of a qualified nurse within the endoscopy rooms.
▪ Supporting taking of tissue samples (biopsy) and completing accurately paperwork to a set standard once trained/educated and competent
▪ Preparation of endoscopic equipment prior to endoscopy
▪ Undertake cannulation and venepuncture as required in order to improve patient pathway
▪ Preparation of endoscopic accessories required during procedures, e.g. preparation of dilatation balloons and inflation devices.
▪ Undertaking other endoscopy assistant tasks under supervision until assessed and competent.
▪ Work in the recovery area of the Unit under supervision to undertake and evaluate patient observations of blood pressure, pulse and temperature and other tasks as required, to assist in the patient recovery stage and see them through to discharge.
▪ Know own limitations and report any lack of knowledge/training to Senior Nurse Educator/Trainer and assessor.
▪ Work within the re-processing area as required, to decontaminate endoscopy equipment to a set standard.

- To maintain infection control practices so as to cause no harm to patients, carers or staff.

- NVQ3/equivalent
Experience

- Previous experience in an NHS healthcare setting
Knowledge

- Awareness of Health and Safety and Security procedures and policies

- Undertaken NHS Decontamination Training Programme
- Demonstration of IPC knowledge
