An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Fire Safety team in the Health and Safety Directorate at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Fire Safety Apprentice is a post for a highly confident, highly motivated, and conscientious person to support the Trust in its compliance with HTM Firecode and all statutory legislation and guidance whilst combining training and study that allows the individual to learn and become a fire safety profession.

 

Main duties of the job

The role is a development role that will, on successfully completion of training, allow the successful person to demonstrate excellent knowledge of Fire Safety, Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Legislation, Department of Health HTMs, Codes of Practice and Fire Safety Training.

Specific responsibilities will include undertaking supporting the team with Fire Risk Assessments and developing associated action plans, arranging evacuation drills, delivering the Trust fire safety training program (including organising, preparing and delivering training sessions), liaison with the local Fire Service, attending and investigating fire calls (including recording and monitoring for trends), preparing fire safety reports, incident report investigation, providing reports for and attendance at relevant Trust meetings, the provision of fire safety information and expert advice to all staff and advise local management on technical fire safety matters.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Whilst on the apprentice journey the role holder will work in partnership with a team of fire safety advisors to deliver:

  • annual fire drills
  • fire safety training
  • fire safety assurance inspections
  • fire risk assessments
  • the investigations of any unwanted fire alarm signals or fires
  • fire safety reports
  • fire safety communications
  • in addition:
  • provide fire safety technical advice
  • supporting with the review and implement the fire safety policy and association fire management documentation in the form of safe operating policies, procedures and guidance

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HND or equivalent relevant area of knowledge
  • ECDL/ RSAII/OCR Advanced Text Processing (Modules: Text Production/Word Processing) or knowledge of Word Processing or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate experience and success in supporting projects
  • Experience of administration procedures
  • Experience of receiving, collating and updating numerous documents and logs
  • Experience of working in a programme/project environment
  • Ability to comment on proposals for change in own work area
