Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUFT) wishes to appoint two substantive Consultant OMFS (Full time 12PA). with an interest in Head and Neck Oncological Surgery and Reconstruction.
This is a post for an OMFS Surgeon who will work with colleagues to provide a full range of services within the specialty across the Cheshire and Mersey Region and wider region including emergency cover for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The appointee will be part of a team of surgeons delivering general OMFS surgery and be able to participate in trauma management and the on-call rota.
The present department offers a comprehensive service to the hospital and general medical and dental practitioners. It currently undertakes all surgical oncology for oral cancer and most of the orthognathic surgery in Cheshire and Mersey Region. Craniofacial and skull based oncological surgery in is carried out in conjunction with the Walton Neurosciences Centre and ENT colleagues also on the Aintree site. The Unit has close links with the Supra-regional Craniofacial Unit and the Regional Cleft Palate Unit at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The appointee will have a commitment to the provision of OMFS services at Aintree with sessions at Warrington Hospital.
In addition, other duties will include administration, attendance at meetings and continuing medical education. It is expected that the appointee will participate in the on-call rota for out of hours care and emergencies.
The timetable is based on a 12 PA job plan with 8.5 Direct clinical care including 0.5 for clinical administration and 1.5 PA core SPA initially. PAs include Trauma Consultant of the Week (COTW) which is currently 1 in 15 frequency. There will be opportunities to be involved in undergraduate and post graduate medical and dental education with additional PAs allocated if needed.
Newly appointed consultants are offered 1.5 SPAs as defined by the Trust’s job-planning policy. It is expected that the job plan will change as the new consultant’s roles expand beyond basic clinical commitments. Additional SPAs are discretionary/performance managed against clearly agreed set objectives. A timetable of the fixed sessions is attached.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB ChB (or equivalent)
- MBBS (or equivalent)
- BDS
- Full registration with the GMC and licence to practise (or eligible for)
- Eligible for specialist list in OMFS
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- CCT in OMFS (or equivalent training) or within 6 months of attaining one at time of interview
- Evidence of continuing medical education
- Head and Neck fellowship
Teaching & training Experience
Essential criteria
- Involvement in education and training of medical, dental and nursing staff and other disciplines
- Evidence of training in postgraduate education to level required to be clinical supervisor
Clinical Governance experience
Essential criteria
- Understanding of NHS management structures and the principles of Clinical Governance.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Management Experience
Essential criteria
- Willingness to participate in management activities
- Understanding of financial arrangements in the NHS
