Job overview
The person appointed will be based across all three sites and will be a member of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate, joining the existing the existing Consultants and multidisciplinary team in providing excellent Major Trauma, trauma and elective Orthopaedics.
Applicants are required to hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent qualifications, to be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practise and listed on the Specialist Register or due to be registered within six months of the date of appointment.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have a special interest that will complement the department and aid in the recovery plan electively as well as trauma care. Participation in major trauma and general trauma is mandated. Please see the attached job plan for details. The appointee would be responsible for the clinical care of patients; undertaking ward rounds (we have a consultant of the week model), operating sessions, and outpatient clinics. It is anticipated that the appointee will work closely in partnership with existing surgeons. He/she will also be expected to visit other surgical centres of excellence with a view to enhancing his/her level of training and skills. The post-operative care of the patients will be covered by on-call consultant colleagues during out of hours and/or the weekend.

Each consultant within the department has a special interest and area of expertise. The new appointee will be expected to bring further expertise to complement the existing team in providing the people of Liverpool, Merseyside and surrounding areas with a high quality Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Service.

Essential criteria

KNOWLEDGE/RESEARCH
Essential criteria
- Working knowledge of research methodologies and direct involvement in the management of basic science and clinical research projects
- Working knowledge of audit process
- Thorough knowledge of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery
Desirable criteria
- Research/publications in Orthopaedic & Trauma, LRS
- Postgraduate research-based degree

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

- Specialist fellowship training in LRS

EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Broad based clinical experience in the management of General Trauma, LRS including arthroscopic and arthroplasty surgery
- Broad based clinical experience of LRS
- Fellowship trained LRS
- Demonstrate operative experience in management of general trauma
- Application/acknowledgement of evidence-based practice
- Participate in major trauma and general on call rota
Desirable criteria
- Skills to enhance the existing trauma and elective orthopaedic service
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

- High moral and professional ethical standards
- Involvement in postgraduate teaching
Desirable criteria
- Involvement in the organisation and running of a postgraduate degree programme
- Experience in the design and management of a research project
- Experience in the principles and practice of consent for research
