Job overview
Applications are invited for the above post at a large University teaching Hospitals Trust in Liverpool. The applicant will join an Anaesthetic department providing services at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospitals.
The Pain Medicine service provides inpatient services across hospital sites, and local Hospices. The outpatient services are at Broadgreen Hospital within a new purpose built Pain Medicine unit. The Pain Medicine unit contains outpatient facilities and a dedicated theatre suite and recovery for pain management procedures. The applicant will join a dedicated team who review 5000 inpatients and 5500 outpatients per year. The applicant will also have an opportunity to work with the Liverpool Refractory Angina Centre providing a patient centred multidisciplinary approach to the management of angina pain.
The post also has a commitment to elective and emergency anaesthetic services, and the successful applicant will be expected to commit to the on-call rota.

Qualification
Essential criteria
- MB ChB or equivalent
- FRCA or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- Have CCT in Anaesthesia or be expected to attain such within 6 months of interview date, or be included on the Specialist register.
Desirable criteria
- Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FFPMRCA)
Experience and skills
Essential criteria
- Advanced Pain medicine training (or equivalent).
- High standard of clinical skills and expertise in anaesthesia.
- Experience in the perioperative management of high-risk patients undergoing complex surgery.
- Interest and experience in critical care medicine
- Clinical experience and knowledge (equivalent to higher training) in: Orthopaedics
- Clinical experience and knowledge (equivalent to higher training) in: Trauma
- Clinical experience and knowledge (equivalent to higher training) in: General, urological and gynaecological surgery
- Clinical experience and knowledge (equivalent to higher training) in: Vascular surgery
- Clinical experience and knowledge (equivalent to higher training) in: Transfer medicine
- Clinical experience and knowledge (equivalent to higher training) in: Non-theatre anaesthesia
- ALS training
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary Pain team.
Desirable criteria
- ATLS training or equivalent
- Expertise in difficult airway Management e.g. Advanced training in Airway Management
- Interest and training in echocardiography (TOE and/or TTE)
- Expertise in ultrasoundguided regional anaesthesia for upper and lower limb surgery, e.g. Advanced training (or equivalent) in general, urological and gynaecological surgery)
- Advanced training (or equivalent) in vascular anaesthesia
- Expertise in ultrasoundguided regional anaesthesia and fluoroscopic guide procedures for pain management
- Evidence of participation in individual and group psychological work in pain medicine
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in bed-side and class-room teaching
- Evidence of achieving GMC standards to be recognised as a Clinical Supervisor
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching nonmedical professionals
