Advanced Clinical Pharmacist - Acute and Emergency

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to join our expanding pharmacy team within the Acute and Emergency village at the Aintree site.

You will provide clinical expertise to the Acute and Emergency village, ensuring medication is correct by prescribing for patients at the front door.  The Acute and Emergency village includes ED (majors, minors, resus) as well as the Acute Medical Unit and Ambulatory Care.  Aintree is a designated Major Trauma Centre  and Stroke Emergency Assessment Centre for the region.  This role will involve working closely with the Advanced Clinical Pharmacists in these and other specialties.

You will be supported by a Lead Clinical Pharmacist, and be part of a dedicated group of pharmacists and technical staff working across all areas of the Acute and Emergency Village.  There will be opportunities to support the delivery of a consistent, high-quality, evidence-based pharmacy service as we seek to constantly improve the service we provide.  

This roles require substantial hospital pharmacy experience, with specific experience in the Acute and Emergency setting.  The role will deputise for the Lead Clinical Pharmacist, so the ability to structure team workflows, support staff development, and contribute to ongoing service planning at both site and Trust level will be required.  You will bring advanced clinical knowledge, strong leadership capability, and a commitment to driving excellence.

 

Main duties of the job

Assist the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Acute and Emergency in the development of pharmacy services and medicines management within the Acute and Emergency village.

To provide a safe and effective advanced clinical pharmacy service to the Acute and Emergency village.

Assist the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Acute and Emergency in providing clinical training and supervision, relevant to the service, for other departmental staff.

Provide non-medical prescribing services to patients in the Acute and Emergency village.

To work with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Acute and Emergency in delivering the key responsibilities.

With support from the Lead Divisional and Clinical Pharmacists audit, monitor and develop medicines management within your speciality.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assist in the delivery of the Pharmacy Strategy, contributing to service development and innovation.

Lead on the development, implementation, management, and audit of medicines policies and clinical guidelines across the Trust, ensuring safe and effective prescribing for patients in the Acute and Emergency setting.

Supervise and support the training of pharmacy staff in pharmacotherapy, including prescribing considerations for conditions for patients in the Acute and Emergency setting.

Liaise with healthcare professionals across primary and secondary care to ensure efficient use of  medicines and resources, and improve communication of medication related issues.

Collaborate with  consultants, multidisciplinary teams including specialist nurses to optimise pharmaceutical care and improve patient outcomes.

Essential criteria
  • Excellent clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills for the relevant specialist role
  • Good all-round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in a relevant specialist pharmacist role
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship experience
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development / education
  • Experience as a NMP

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Vocational masters degree in pharmacy
  • Membership of The General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent documented clinical experience
  • Full NMP qualification
Desirable criteria
  • MRPharmS
  • UKCPA membership
