An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Consultant Rheumatologist to join the Rheumatology Department at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive multidisciplinary rheumatology service, including outpatient care and inpatient consultation. The department provides a full range of core services alongside regional and nationally recognised specialist services.

The role offers the opportunity to develop a specialist interest aligned with departmental priorities and the interests of the successful candidate. Contribution to  the National Centre of Excellence for Behçet’s disease, within an established multidisciplinary framework, is required.  Other opportunities for development of special interests include multisystem diseases such as SLE, vasculitis, early arthritis/ultrasound, or other inflammatory conditions such as AS.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside Rheumatology colleagues in delivering outpatient services and consulting on inpatient referrals. 

The post will include: 

  • General Rheumatology clinics
  • One specialist Behçet’s clinic (This may eventually increase to two, depending upon clinical and research interests of the successful applicant)
  •  Support for Behçet’s service - high-cost drug approvals, telephone advice, meetings with NHSE and the other two Centres.
  • Expectation to contribute to service development
  • 1:6 rota as consultant of the week (9-5pm) to cover referrals
  • 1:6 rota to manage the e-RS (triaging new referrals) and Advice and Guidance
  • Participation in Rheumatology MDT (weekly), vasculitis MDT (monthly), specialist  regional MDT (once a month)

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • CCST in rheumatology (or within 6 months)
Desirable criteria
  • Academic/university post Higher degree by research (PhD)

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Strong background in all aspects of general rheumatology with additional experience in systemic IMIDs such as CTDs, SLE or vasculitis
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist experience eg Fellowship in systemic IMID related field

Management Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understand management responsibilities of consultant role

Research

Essential criteria
  • Experience of clinical research as a Sub/Co-Investigator, and/or translational research
  • Understanding of principles of GCP GCP certification
Desirable criteria
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals

Audit

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of principles of clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Track record in audit

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of teaching students/ junior doctors / PAMs
Desirable criteria
  • Educational supervisor accreditation
