Department of Urology

Clinical Research Fellow in Urology

This post is set at ST3 level and will suit trainees who are waiting to be appointed to Specialist Urological Registrar training post, who wish to develop their practical surgical skills or who wish to continue preparing for the MRCS examination.

Candidates must have, or be eligible for a GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training.

The Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospital Department of Urology is a forward-looking and expanding teaching hospital department providing specialist urological cancer centres services for Liverpool and surrounding areas, a large tertiary referral kidney stone practice with one of the busiest lithotripters in the country and a dedicated diagnostic treatment centre for urological diagnosis providing flexible cystoscopy, prostate biopsy and urodynamics with two full-time Diagnostic Consultant Urologists in addition to the team of 9 Consultant Urological Surgeons.

This appointment is for one year in the first instance during which time the successful applicant will be expected to undertake a research project.

Whilst the post is not formally recognised as a training post by the postgraduate dean, opportunities are available to learn prostate biopsy, urodynamics, lithotripsy, genito-scrotal surgery and endoscopic procedures including Ureteroscopy depending on level of experience and the balance of clinical time and research time agreed, but there is scope for the posts to be predominately research based.

The on-call duties are 1 in 6 resident at night covering elective general surgery, ENT and urology in-patients. There is no A&E department on the Broadgreen site.

There is resident core training and non-resident SpR/Senior ST cover (by specialty) out of hours. The resident prospective shift rota is compliant with an 18 hour week.

For any enquiries regarding this post please contact Mr Phil Cornford Clinical Director for Urology on 0151 706 3594 or 0151 706 2018.
