We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Band 4 Technical Instructor to work with our Rehabilitation and Recovery Services within the new state-of-the-art LSU Service (Aspen Wood) on Maghull Health Park, Liverpool.

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust specialises in providing high quality care to men and women with a Learning Disability and Mental Health problems. The Secure and Specialist Learning Disability Division have a number of Forensic and Enhanced Support services that include High Secure, Medium Secure, Low Secure, Step Down and Enhanced beds based within inpatient services or in the community. We also have a dedicated Specialist Support Team that provides support in the community.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of health and fitness activities for service users within the Secure and Specialist Learning Disability Division. Also to facilitate the delivery of therapeutic and rehabilitative activities to patients in accordance with their identified needs as specified in their Care Plan. This is a flexible role in order to adapt to the changing needs of patients within defined units and evolving proactive service.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

1. Support in the delivery and implementation of patient therapeutic/rehabilitative programmes in Health and Fitness in conjunction with other members of the team. This is a flexible role in order to adapt to the changing needs of patients within defined units and an evolving proactive service.

Have a lead facilitator role in the delivery of health, fitness, wellbeing and sporting activities to a designated patient group.

Assist Technical Instructor I in the formulation of patient care programmes to meet the identified needs of patients

Assist Technical Instructor I in the assessment, planning, monitoring and implementation of patient centred therapy programme in line with service standards.

Undertake delegated tasks to contribute to the safe and smooth running of the service.

Provide regular oral and written reports/information pertaining to patients’ development within the Rehabilitation Services to multidisciplinary Patient Care Teams with support from senior staff.

Ensure a safe and secure therapeutic environment through conformity with current Health & Safety legislation.

Maintain the health, safety and security of others and initiate, contribute and comply with risk assessment.

To regularly carry out recorded checks to include equipment and ensure the maintenance of a safe working environment and to report promptly any problems so as to ensure a prompt response.

Keep up to date with developments and changes in respect of Rehabilitation trends.

Participate in the Trust Appraisal process on an annual basis.

Participate in on-going mandatory training and to take opportunity to extend knowledge and skills to maintain and update knowledge and skills

Engage in regular supervision and reflective practice.

Provide clinical and operational supervision and support the PACE process for Band 3 Health and Fitness staff.

Maintain a high secure environment in line with High Security Directions

In the absence of the TI1 the post holder will deputise.

For Equipment, Tools and Materials: The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that tools, equipment and materials used are stored in accordance with current security standards, Health & Safety regulations, and that materials are economically utilised and are secure in their storage.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Health and Fitness NVQ 3 or equivalent.

  • Higher level education qualifications
  • Teaching qualification i.e., PTLS
  • ILS Training or the willingness to achieve this.
  • Level 3 Adult and Child Safeguarding or a willingness to achieve this.
  • RLSS Qualification or a willingness to achieve this.

Knowledge / Experience

  • Experience working with service users with a Learning Disability/Autism /Mental Health
  • Skills and interest in using a variety of activities and interventions relevant to the post including physical health activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Computer literacy
