Main duties of the job
- To work closely with the MWL Homecare Pharmacy Team and other members of the pharmacy team to ensure safe and efficient homecare services are maintained.
- To perform routine ordering, dispensing, invoicing and administrative duties for Homecare patients
- To maintain scanned records of prescriptions, certificates of analysis / conformity for unlicensed medicines
- To maintain records in homecare patient database
- To co-operate with all Pharmacy staff in the provision and development of an efficient and effective pharmaceutical service for the patients of Mersey West Lancs NHS Trust.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
KEY DUTIES
- To receive clinically-checked homecare prescriptions and to ensure that they are sent to the appropriate homecare supplier in a timely manner.
- To liaise between homecare providers and Trust clinical teams communicating complex information to ensure that patients receive their medication in a timely manner.
- To be responsible for receiving invoices for homecare dispensed items, placing orders for these on the pharmacy computer system and dispense the items using the pharmacy computer system.
- To be responsible for communicating with external suppliers in relation to any invoice discrepancy and to take action to rectify.
- To provide complex information to the finance department in relation to orders placed which may require adjustment.
- To be responsible for maintaining records for scanned homecare prescriptions and unlicensed medication certificates of compliance / conformity.
- To maintain the homecare patient database.
- To assist in the implementation of new technology relevant to homecare.
- To assist in the receipt of prescriptions accurately according to safe working practices.
- To dispense prescriptions accurately according to safe working practices.
- To assist other members of staff in the performance of an efficient and cost effective service.
- To answer phone calls, e-mails and queries from patients, medical staff and all other users of the Trust in relation to homecare services
- To monitor the shared homecare email inbox
- To attend and participate in study days and courses as necessary.
- To participate in the stock control of medicines under the supervision of the dispensary senior and chief technicians.
- To participate in all relevant Saturday, Sunday, evening and bank holiday rotas in response to the changing needs of the Pharmacy service.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- To be responsible for the accurate input of data into the pharmacy computer system for all duties requiring its use e.g. labelling, invoicing, ordering and stock control
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
- To assist in the training of ATOs, ATO dispensers, student pharmacy technicians, pre-registration pharmacists, work experience students and other new pharmacy staff.
RESEARCH & AUDIT
- To carry out and assist in audit research projects to improve and develop the service provision

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- National Level 3 qualification in pharmaceutical science (e.g. customer care, CIPS Foundation) or equivalent experience
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Services or unit accreditation with their specialised area or equivalent
- Good level of functional skills in Maths and English
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working in Pharmacy
- Able to supervise others effectively and efficiently
- Excellent IT skills covering a range of systems such as Microsoft Office, complex Excel spreadsheets and databases
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work safely and accurately under pressure
- Experience of working in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training others to work under SOPs
- Proven experience of dealing with invoice and order discrepancies
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clerical / administrative work
- Ability to use a range of prescribing and invoicing methods and electronic document management
- Previous user of JAC or EMIS pharmacy systems
- Experience of working in a pharmacy Homecare environment
Skills

- Ability to liaise effectively with patients, staff and other senior health professionals
