Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as a General Surgery Clinic Co-ordinator. This post will be based at Whiston Hospital.

The General Surgery Department at MWL has an excellent record in recruiting and retaining  staff of all grades and invests heavily in a policy of team building and personal and professional development for all grades. The department works across all sites of the hospital and includes Surgical Wards and an Assessment Area.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the General Surgery Department in achieving departmental, national and Trust objectives to provide an efficient and effective general surgical outpatient provision. They will be responsible for the day to day oversight of general surgical and vascular clinics working closely with the Directorate Team, Consultants, Secretaries, Nursing team and Patient Booking Services, to ensure that patients are offered an appointment in a timely manner and in the correct clinic.  

They will work with the Clinical Director and Directorate Management on service demands and available capacity, implementing any changes required to maintain a fully compliant service.

To provide regular reports on outpatient activity and tracking compliance to Trust clinicians, managers and CCG representatives.

The post holder must be able to prioritise their workload and have the ability to work autonomously and often under pressure.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
