This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow to work in Cardiology.
This is a full-time 4 month fixed term post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated doctor to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
The post holder will be required to work fulltime and will contribute to the IMT3 on-call rota. There may also be an opportunity to experience sub-speciality clinics/procedures, depending on the interest/experience of the post-holder.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work for Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and be covered by the terms of service as amended from time to time by the Trust. Consequently, he/she is expected to work within the local policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust. All medical staff under contract to the Trust will be expected to comply with the Trust Health and Safety policies
Due to the short-term nature of the role/service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through the shortlisting stage.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Participate in the initial assessment and management of patients, supervising more junior members of the team.
- To lead inpatient ward rounds to ensure the on-going clinical management of patients is appropriate. To support the discharge of patients, to a place of safety, in a timely manner.
- Participate in or lead the acute take, to provide senior clinical decisions, with the support of consultant clinicians.
- Contribute to the Medical Emergency Team (MET). Lead cardiac arrest calls.
- Contribute to GIM/medical speciality clinics.
- Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties.
- Advise junior trainees and ANPs about management of patients.
- Develop skills in managing the ward to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care to all patients.
Professional Responsibilities
- To participate in clinical audit and or quality improvement (QI) project.
- To participate in continuing professional development.
- Educational supervision will be provided.
- To maintain a portfolio of training.
- To comply with Trust policies and procedures, have (and maintain) GMC registration /licensing.
Administrative Responsibilities
- To ensure good documentation and record keeping
- To ensure all admin tasks including are complete within local Trust targets.
Teaching and Training Responsibilities
- To attend educational opportunities where appropriate.
- To maintain a portfolio of training.
- To support medical & non-medical students within the ward area. Engage actively in teaching others as the work schedule allows.
Research and Audit Responsibilities
- To be involved in departmental audit/research/QIPs.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of application
- MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
- ALS Certification
- Completed Foundation Year Programme and/or equivalent medical qualification/experience
- Completed 2 years’ experience in a medical speciality, post Foundation Programme or equivalent experience
- Completed or part completed UK MRCP examinations or equivalent post-graduate examination
Knowledge & Experience
