Applications are invited for a 0.7WTE Locum Consultant Paediatrician to work within the Paediatric Outpatient Department at Mersey West Lancs Hospitals Trust in the St Helens and Whiston locality.
This is a part time fixed term post covering maternity leave to support outpatient activity with no on call or acute paediatric work. The person appointed will be supported by and work closely with consultant colleagues and department managers.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to provide 4.5 general Paediatric clinics per week (eg. alternate 4 clinics 1 week, 5 clinics the next week).

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration at the time of appointment
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
- MD/PHD or equivalent medical qualification
- Safeguarding Children Level 3
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice including: • Good clinical care • Maintaining good medical practice • Good relationships and communication with patients • Good working relationships with colleagues • Good teaching and training • Professional behaviour and probity • Delivery of good acute clinical care.
- Clinical knowledge and expertise in General Paediatrics and Neonatology in order to manage/ supervise and/or offer expert clinical opinion on patients presenting to the Paediatric Department and Neonatal Unit. Must be actively involved in caring for neonates in a Level 2 Unit
- Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit/research within team structure within the last 3 years
- Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of relevant academic achievement e.g. degrees, awards in last 3 years
- Evidence of relevant research e.g. presentations, publications in peer reviewed journals within the last 3 years
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues. Able to build rapport, listen, persuade and negotiate
- Ability to provide complete details of employment history
- Skills acquired to safeguard children effectively
- Skills acquired in practical procedures appropriate to Paediatrics and Neonatology
- Demonstrates clarity in written and spoken communication and capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation, particularly when communicating with children
- Able to work effectively in multi-professional teams
- Evidence of clinically supervising a range of doctors in training with the ability to teach clinical and practical skills
