Job overview

This post is for a Substantive Consultant Radiologist with a Sub-speciality Interest in Gynaecology, Urological and Gastro-intestinal. This is a whole-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Doctor to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Applicants will be required to achieve CCT within 6 months of Interview. They will be required to hold Membership of the Royal College of RCR (UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council.

Overseas trained applicants have to have had a submitted CESR application to be eligible

Main duties of the job

The department has a proactive strategy to ensure the highest standard of patient care is maintained. This is supported by well-structured and comprehensive governance processes. In 2019, the department achieved accreditation to the Quality Standard for imaging (QSI) (Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme) by the RCR and CoR, the first imaging department to receive the award in the Cheshire and Merseyside area.

The successful applicant is required to maintain the expanding workload of the department including supporting the extensive department input into MDT meetings, to meet waiting list targets and to enable the introduction of extended working.  The appointed individual would be expected to contribute to the general workload of the department. There is flexibility in the number of general sessions expected. There are currently 23 full time equivalent consultants in post and one Associate Specialist, one specialty doctor and one Locum consultant.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The department’s current consultants operate very much as a team and are looking for colleagues who are keen to work in this environment.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the general workload and participate in the oncall rota, Currently 1 in 20. The consultants are second on call. The initial contact for on call imaging is provided by a central on call Hub staffed by regional STs supported by an integrated RIS (Wellbeing) and PACS - Carestream Global Worklist. This service is provided on weekdays from 5pm to 9am and during weekends. The on-call radiologist is on site on weekends from 9am-3pm.

The successful candidate will take part in the diagnostic general on call rota.

On call interventional radiology is provided by Liverpool University hospitals.

The successful candidate will support the existing Radiologists. This is an additional post to help support the expanding workload.

The department receives 7-9 Radiology SpRs from the Mersey Region Training Scheme.  All consultants are involved in supervision and training of trainees both on site and at the University of Liverpool.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT on successful application
  • MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • FRCR or equivalent medical qualification

Knowledge. Experience and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Extensive clinical training and experience in Radiology.
  • Ability to lead in Gynaecology MDT
  • Experience/ Attendance in Urology MDT
  • Emergency imaging and on call experience
  • Can independently report Cross-sectional Gynaecological Imaging
  • Experience in reporting Cross-sectional Urology Imaging
  • Independent in reporting General X-ray, US, CT and MRI imaging
  • Familiarity with PACs and other IT systems relevant with Radiology
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years
  • Able to supervise junior medical staff
  • Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit / research within team structure within the last 3 years
Desirable criteria
  • Exposure to Lower GI Reporting
  • Understanding of methods of appraisal and assessment of radiology trainees.
