We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and reliable Recovery Practitioner to join our dynamic team at Whiston Hospital, part of the Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Recovery area within theatres providing and maintaining a high standard of care, ensuring the safe recovery for patients following anaesthetic and surgical intervention.

Main duties of the job
- To work within a team, nurses/operating department practitioners to achieve the safe recovery of patients post anaesthesia/ surgical intervention.
- To work through the recovery competency framework and keep up to date with all essential/ mandatory training and complete rotations through all areas of recovery.
- To establish excellent working relationships with all service users and actively encourage and promote joint working in the pursuit of continuous service improvement.
- To be a role model and mentor to new learners, staff, student nurses and student operating department practitioners. Maintain 5-star patient care and adhere to trust ‘ACE’ behavioural standards
- To work on behalf of the recovery team leads to co-ordinate the recovery area, to supervise delegation and review performance.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Essential criteria
- Registered or Student Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner with current professional registration
Desirable criteria
- Relevant diploma or degree, or working towards
- Teaching and assessing/mentoring qualification
- Related ENB/Theatre courses
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of clinical skills required to undertake the role
- Knowledge of current professional & clinical issues
- Knowledge of Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults procedures
Desirable criteria
- Significant experience working in a recovery/post anaesthetic care environment
- Relevant experience within critical care environment
