33.75 hours (0.9 WTE) – Permanent (Part-time considered)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner/ Therapy Assistant to join the Mersey Regional Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Therapy Team at Whiston hospital.

The successful candidate will work alongside Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists providing care for patients from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, Isle of Man and beyond in one of the largest units in the UK.

You will work as part of a friendly, supportive therapy team who continuously strive to provide high-quality person-centred care to both in patients and outpatients following a burn injury or those that have required plastic surgery due to trauma or elective surgery. Many of our patients will have experienced a life changing event.

The JD & PS are currently under AfC review and are subject to change.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to manage a caseload independently and take responsibility for providing assessment and treatment of patients with a variety of medical conditions. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, hardworking and able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisational, prioritisation and time management skills. Manual handling is an important component of the role.

The successful candidate will have a flexible approach to work and be able to adapt to meet the demands of our 7-day service. Applicants may be expected to travel within the regional catchment area to support the patient’s transition back into the community.

Administrative duties including photocopying, computer data entry and IT literacy skills are essential.

We are keen to promote collaborative practice and to develop staff within a supportive and friendly environment. You will participate in delivering training to other staff to facilitate their development. You will have completed the Assistant Practitioner Degree or be willing to do so.

Service development, Clinical Governance, Research and audit activities are key and you will have a number of opportunities to contribute to our commitment to making a difference to patient experience and outcomes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

               To contribute to the identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual care interventions under the direct/indirect supervision of a Registered Practitioner depending upon competency/complexity of work.

               Work with caseload holder to provide advice to clients and carers in relation to any needs and the wider public health remit of the Health and Social Care organisation.

               To maintain accurate, clear, concise, and contemporaneous records as per trust policy and communicate information to members of the Team as necessary.

               To be aware of the role expectations and scope of practice and when to seek clarity from a supervising Registered Practitioner.

               Provide concise handover and information updates to other members of the Team referring clients for assessment and treatment or to other agencies as required.

               To liaise with external agencies with regards to follow up and provide feedback to registered

Practitioners as appropriate

  • Assistant practitioner Degree and/or Equivalent Qualification

Experience

  • Awareness of own strengths and limitations

  • Evidence of effective working within an MDT
  • Demonstrate experience of problem-solving approaches
