An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a clerical officer working in the audiology department at our Southport and Ormskirk sites.

Main duties of the job

Waiting list Administration

In accordance with audiology service processes and Trust guidance accurately input patients details onto the waiting list ensuring any relevant notes recorded.

Under direction assists in the agreed administration processes to ensure the organisation of waiting lists to maximise efficiencies. Requires considering requests to cancel/reschedule patients, replacing short notice cancellations, liaising with the audiology service management team and clinicians.

To work flexibly according to the needs of the service including covering for colleagues during periods of leave or high demands in all areas of the admin service. 

Outpatient booking and appointments administration

Responsible for appointing all patients from their initial consultation following clinician electronic triage or self-referral route access.

Responsible for booking all new and follow up appointments in accordance with departmental procedures following clinician’s direction when required.

Liaise directly with patients in relation to booking and arranging outpatient appointments over varied mediums/platforms.

Working under the direction of the operational management teams, when dealing with requests for clinic cancellations; will be responsible for administrating the cancellation/reduction of the clinics on the audiology patient management system and appointing the patient’s future appointments effectively

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ customer care or equivalent

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate – experience of using Microsoft packages having excellent computer skills
  • Experience of working in a customer service environment
  • Ability to organise self, working to deadlines and ensuring quality standards.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS standards and targets
  • Communication with patients in a healthcare setting
  • Use of IT systems

  • To frequently sit and concentrate in a restricted position for a substantial proportion of the working time due to continuous exposure to VDU equipment, inputting information via a keyboard and using a telephone headset. Whilst using multiple computer systems at the same time.
  • Working in an office environment, using a VDU continuously throughout the day
