Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a full time, Oral and Maxillofacial Consultant to join a very enthusiastic Maxillofacial team at the Wirral University Teaching Hospital, Merseyside.
The successful candidate would be expected to work closely with both Oral & Maxillofacial Consultant and Orthodontic colleagues to provide a fully comprehensive oral and maxillofacial service to the patients of the Wirral.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant Surgeon will attend out- patient clinics, both general and specialist.
• The undertaking of independent theatre sessions.
• Visits to individual ward-based patients as necessary.
• Attending emergency patients referred by A&E or ward staff as necessary in conjunction with on call DCT.
• Keeping such clinical records as may be required. These must be dated, named clearly and signed, and made at least daily for all inpatients. Other related administrative duties including Discharge and Clinic Letters.
• Supervision of the trainees and middle grades when they are performing clinical duties.
• Co-ordination of junior staff daily and weekly rotas, annual and study leave.
• To agree to read and follow any protocols of medical cover laid down (either in writing or verbally) for the department.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the GMC and a licence to practice at time of appointment
- Full GDC Registration
- MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
- BDS or equivalent
- Full registration with the UK General Dental Council and General Medical Council.
- Good clinical care and good previous experience in OMFS
- Ability to take responsibility and work independently
- Maintaining good medical practice
- Good relationship with patients
- Good working relationships with colleagues
- Delivery of good acute clinical care Ability to make clear accurate medical notes
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Audit understanding of principles
- Ability to provide good teaching and training
- Experience in teaching and training

- Self motivated to evaluate and develop patient services
- Proven ability to work independently without on-site peer support

- Ability to assess and advise other medical specialties on patients admitted with facial swelling and facial trauma and liaise appropriately with OMFS services
