We are recruiting for a full time, substantive Consultant Microbiologist to join our team. We provide services to St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals Trust, as well as direct access. The Microbiology laboratory is located on a single site at Whiston Hospital.

As a Teaching Hospital, our department has a significant teaching workload, both within and outside the department. There are medical student tutorials, link nurse teaching, sessions on infection prevention and control for doctors, teaching of microbiology for junior doctors of other disciplines, in addition to occasional teaching for general practice.

We are looking for applicants that possess FRCPath or equivalent, have training and broad experience in Microbiology including Virology and Infection Control.

Due to service demand, the successful candidate must have GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register within 6 months of interview.
