This is a 12-month fixed-term contract initially, following an internal promotion.

Main duties of the job

The Assistant Business Intelligence Developer will support the Senior Business Intelligence Developer in the development of reports and dashboards and help in supporting the management of the Trusts data warehouse and reporting platforms. They will be responsible for assisting with the design, development and maintenance of activity reporting across the Trust, as well as statutory reporting for external agenciesThis will involve collaborative working with the wider Business Intelligence team to embed development and automation in the analyst’s daily lifeThis includes gathering requirements in order to develop solutions that are of a high standard and meet the demands of both internal and external stakeholders.  

The Assistant Business Intelligence Developer will ensure development, testing and deployment work is undertaken to a high standard using the agreed departmental methods and standards to deliver robust solutions with acceptable level of performance, ensuring that developments are documented appropriately to facilitate cross team support of solutionsThis includes conforming to the agreed change management procedures in place.

population of 2.4 million people across Cheshire & Merseyside, North Wales, the Isle of Man and parts of Lancashire.


Our flagship specialist cancer hospital in Liverpool opened in June 2020, supported by our hospital on the Clatterbridge Health Park in Wirral
providing outpatient cancer treatment and supportive care, and our radiotherapy treatment centre on the Aintree Hospital site.

Together, working across three sites and operating specialist chemotherapy clinics in four of Merseyside’s district hospitals, we are able to deliver a comprehensive range of inpatient care, advanced radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other systemic anti-cancer therapies including gene
therapies and immunotherapies. We also deliver a pioneering Treatment at Home and Work service; are the only facility in the UK providing low energy
proton beam therapy to treat rare eye cancers and host the region’s Teenage and Young Adult Unit, (supported by the Teenage Cancer

forefront of novel treatments and techniques to deliver more effective and personalised treatments than ever before.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Communication 

  • The post involves regular communication with staff from departments across the organisation and the wider business intelligence team. 
  • Frequent contact with other members of the Business Intelligence team to discuss complex issues relating to the Business Intelligence Portal. Working with Senior Business Intelligence Developers to take forward the Business Intelligence development programme and participate in problem resolutions.
  • Attend various meetings where directed
  • Attend relevant local workshops and training days in support of the personal and development

 Analytical and Judgement Skills 

  • Manipulate, analyse and present clinical and activity data using a variety of systems and applications g. Microsoft Excel, SQL Management Studio and Power BI.
  • Utilise data visualisation tools to ensure information is displayed in a consistent departmental format.
  • To develop and maintain standardised reports from Data Warehouse with help from the Senior Business Intelligence Developer if required.
  • To develop dashboards, automate reporting and develop exception reporting to support and address data quality issues or where measures are close to being breached.
  • Support Senior Business Intelligence Developers with the management of the Business Intelligence platforms, including granting user access to reports and dashboards where required
  • Utilise the latest technologies to move from providing information to providing intelligence and insight.  

 Planning and Organisational Skills   

  • Support the automation and scheduling of reports, processes and loads within the Business Intelligence Team.
  • Utilise best practices in the management and granting of user access to all reporting platforms.
  • To assist with the improvement and streamlining of existing processes and data feeds from Trust systems, to promote greater efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Strong organisational and time management skills are required.  Ability to meet tight deadlines and multi-task in an often changing and challenging environment

 Responsibility for Policy and Service Development 

  • Contribute to continual service development in the Business Intelligence Team through liaison with the Senior Business Intelligence Developer. 
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in clinical/non-clinical systems to improve data quality and efficient ways of working with data.

 Responsibility for Information Resources 

  • Under guidance by the Senior Business Intelligence Developer, promote the use of the business intelligence portal by closely working with directorates and key users to understand and clearly specify requirements and changes.

Essential criteria
  • • Educated to relevant degree level or equivalent proven practical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of a relevant Fed-IP recognised professional body
  • Evidence of continued Personal Development

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Experience and knowledge of using Microsoft BI Stack
  • • Knowledge of Business Intelligence dash boarding and reporting.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience using version control

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience working in a BI development role or equivalent
  • • Experience developing and testing reporting solutions
  • • Experience documenting data flows and processes
  • • Experience in SQL Query writing
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of Meditech
  • • Experience of supporting and providing training to end users
  • • Experience of discussing and collating end user requirements
  • • Experience of NHS data sets, broad understanding of NHS information procedures, legislation and policies.
